My early visual influences included the artists in Mad Magazine of the
late 1950's and early 1960's and the original B&W version of "King Kong."  When my father, the radar engineer, could not satisfactorily
explain the complexities of optical special effects, I took it upon
myself to find out.  This led me to practice still photography, which I
did at first simply to express my adolescent emotions.  Later, as I got
better, I found (not without some setbacks) that I could do it
commercially.

I like to think that my best images are transcendent, that they put you
in touch with a level of reality you might not, for whatever reason,
otherwise apprehend.  They make you aware that, for a moment at least,
we are all, bugs and birds, beasts and humans, traveling the same road
together.  Sometimes, when we can acknowledge each other, we share an
instant of tacit understanding that makes us feel as one.  My photos
try to capture that feeling.
